Daghestanis take part in memorial events to commemorate Russian peecekeepers in Moscow

Makhachakal, February 18, 2014. Officials from Daghestan Permanent Mission at the Russian President and Daghestan public participated in commemorating the Memorial Day of the Russians soldiers serving their duty abroad and the 25th anniversary of Soviet troops’ withdrawal from Afghanistan, a source in the Mission told RIA "Daghestan".

A ceremonial meeting and laying wreaths at the monument to Russian peacekeepers took place on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow, Saturday, February 15. Hundreds of veterans and members of Moscow patriotic organizations gathered to commemorate the heroes.

According to Head of the department for cooperation with associations and law enforcement agencies of Daghestan Permanent Mission Omar Ibragimov, the peacekeepers had honorably went through a lot of trials while serving their duty.

"Daghestan alone provided over 4,000 peacemaker soldiers of whom 142 died and 500 were wounded and returned home with disabilities, - Ibragimov said, - For the courage and heroism at war, 769 Daghestanis were awarded orders and medals, two of them - and Abas Israfilov and Nukhidin Gadjiyev were post-mortem awarded the high titles of the Soviet Union Hero and the and Russian Hero."

During the commemorating events, Daghestan representatives laid a wreath at the monument to peacemakers, then, according to the tradition, all the participants ate the soldier's cereal cooked by organizers in a field kitchen.
