Makhachkala, June 30, 2014. On June 27, Daghestan Ombudsman Ummupazil Omarova met with a blogger group "Caucasus today" to discuss cooperation issues, especially the blogger community’s role in making people more legally aware, a source in the ombudsman’s office told RIA "Daghestan".

In the beginning, Ummupazil Omarova briefed on the main areas of her work and gave statistics on people’s complaints she gets. She said that Daghestan’s main problems – low level of law knowledge, legal nihilism, people’s poor social activity – negatively affect the level of legal security and the republic’s image on the whole. At the same time, social networks and blogs make a major social force who can really affect these processes by informing people of the situation in Daghestan and shaping the public opinion. However, they should pay attention to the quality of the information rather than its volume.

The bloggers agreed with Ummupazil Omarova and pointed to the blogs’ ability to promote legal information in terms of its spreading speed and its opportunity to find audience and get user feedback. They also shared their ideas of partnership with the ombudsman’s office in legal education and providing information about the ombudsman’s work and about current problems and solving them, which Ummupazil Omarova thankfully supported.
