Daghestan minister of national policy meets with Great Patriotic War veterans

Makhachkala, May 7, 2014. Today, the "Relay of Generations" roundtable dedicated to the Victory Day was taking place in the House of Friendship in Makhachkala bringing together Daghestan minister of national policy Alexei Gassanov, his first deputy Bagand Magomedov, the chairman of the coordination council of Afghan War Veterans and TOX Commander Omar Murtazaliyev.

The guests here were Great Patriotic War veterans, Leningrad blockade survivors, Afghan war veterans, and students from the 1st Makhachkala Cadet Corps.

The roundtable turned out to be a friendly discussion intermingled with war-time songs. Each participant could express his or her vision of the significant date. The veterans shared their memories of the war, talked about how they fought for life, and how their near ones died at war.

According to the organizers, the event was meant to be a chance to once again state that Daghestanis remember the date of May 9. Daghestani as part of the Soviet army won the war.

Speaking to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, the minister of finance Alexei Gassanov noted that, "It is our duty to pass on the memory of the great feat of the nation, the memory of people who gave their lives to close in the awaited Victory Day, to future generations."
