Dagestan to build first radiotherapy center in south of Russia

Makhachkala, July 24, 2017. The first center for radiotherapy in the south of Russia will be built based on the Republican Clinical Hospital (RKB) of Dagestan: its construction is planned to be completed in October 2017.

"Thanks to Ramazan Abdulatipov (the Head of the Republic of Dagestan), the investors expressed willingness to purchase a Leksell Gamma Knife (a device for stereotactic radiosurgery of brain pathologies) for the republic. Our task is to build a two-story building for this device with 1.4 thousand square meters”- Dagestan Prime Minister Abdussamad Gamidov reports.

Leksell Gamma Knife costs more than 4 billion rubles, Besides, an ultrasound equipment, MRI and a hospital for ten beds in the facility will be purchased.

The device Leksell Gamma Knife can serve 10 million people, so the center will treat not only the residents of Dagestan and the North Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), but also fr om all of southern regions of Russia. Today, there are only five similar devices in Russia” - Dagestan Minister of Health Tanka Ibragimov informed.

"The device has already been ordered, it will take seven months to produce it. Besides, Leksell Gamma Knife is made only on special order," - Dagestan Ministry of Health added.
According to the Ministry of Public Health of Dagestan, the number of cancer patients grows annually in the republic, wh ere cancer takes the second place among the other lethal diseases. Oncologists of the republic especially complain about the lack of specialized beds, because there is only one oncological clinic with 200 places in Dagestan
