Dagestan theatricals take part in the IV international conference in Baku

Makhachkala, November 10, 2016. The director of the Russian Drama Theater named after Maxim Gorky Timur Magomedov and the director of Azerbaijan Drama Theater Ferdowsi Askerov from Dagestan presented Russia at the IV International Theatre conference "Multiculturalism and the theater", which took place November 7 - 9 in Baku, the Ministry of Culture RD reports.

The conference, organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Union of theatrical figures of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and the Baku International Multiculturalism Centre, was attended by about 150 experts in the field of theatrical art from 40 countries.

Opening the conference, the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan Abulfas Garayev noted that the main purpose of the event was to gather theater professionals from different countries to discuss the possibilities of contemporary theater and to  facilitate the sharing of experience among the leading theorists and scientists, directors and producers to discuss common problems and opportunities facing the modern theater.

At the conference Timur Magomedov delivered report on "National Theatre in a multicultural region." Magomedov noted that the theatrical activity in the country is represented by the activities of 12 state professional theaters. Nine of them are the national ones. Each theatre has its own individuality and unique repertoire, professionally trained artists, the professional national direction and a whole galaxy of designers, decorators and shop workers.

"The republican theaters, designed to meet the spiritual needs of a particular nation, ethnic group, have become the centers of national culture, literature, art and musical creativity of its people. The Russian Theater continues to fulfill the mission of common Dagestan ethnic theater"- Magomedov said.

The event participants noted that in 1998 Azerbaijan State Drama Theater was established in Dagestan. Nowadays it stages both classic and contemporary plays by Azerbaijani and Dagestani playwrights and musical comedies.

The Theatre enjoys great love of his people, in Daghestan, and in neighboring Azerbaijan. The participants visited the fascinating exhibitions, participated in master classes and creative meetings.
