Dagestan Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery Center doubles number of operations on heart and blood vessels in 2014

Makhachkala, January 19, 2015. In 2014, Dagestan Center of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery doubled the total number of operations on the heart and blood vessels, a source in the center reported RIA Dagestan.

"In 2014, we performed the total amount of 395operations on the heart and blood vessels, while in 2013 there were only 186. It’s almost a doubled number. The number of high-tech medical operations has increased 7 times – 328 from 45 in 2013," - the source reported.

In 2013-2014, they started to apply modern methods of diagnosing and treating heart diseases such as stress echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, transesophageal pacing and myocardial revascularization using shock wave therapy.

In the past two years, the center staff made the first high-tech operations like coronary artery stenting including implantation of bioabsorbable stents, radiofrequency ablation of arrhythmogenic heart areas, implanting a dual chamber frequency-adapted pacemaker, and stenting the internal carotid artery.
The number of treated patients has also increased - from 2,686 in 2013 to 3,329 patients 2014.
