Chairman of Dagestan Writers’ Union participates in Palestinian educational and cultural Forum

Makhachkala, August 7, 2015. On August 5, the chairman of Dagestan Writers' Union, the national poet of Dagestan Magomed Akhmedov took part in the VII Palestinian educational and cultural Forum, the press-service of the organization reports.

The delegation, which included the well-known poets and writers fr om Russia, Spain, England, Tunisia, Chile, Jordan, Iraq and other countries has been accepted Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority Dr. Rami Hamdallah in his residence in Ramallah. Dr. Rami Hamdallah welcomed the delegates to the Forum and spoke about the past political and economic events in the autonomy, as well as the efforts of the Palestinian leadership, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas at the international level, to protect the rights of the Palestinian people.

The Prime Minister invited the delegation to visit the Writers East Jerusalem, Jericho, the oldest city in the world and other areas of autonomy so they can see the true picture of what is happening in Palestine and contribute to reconciliation and the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian question. The delegation also visited the mausoleum of the writers of Yasser Arafat and laid wreaths to the martyrs who died for the freedom and independence of the Palestinian people.

In Jerusalem, the delegation met with the provincial governor of Jerusalem Adnan Al Husseini, who welcomed the participants of the Forum and expressed hope that the international writers’ community would give an independent review of what was happening in the city.

The writers visited the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Dome of the Rock and Church of the Resurrection, and then went to the city of Nazareth, where they visited the library of Abu Shamma and the Church of Annunciation.

The Governor of Jericho Madzhet Fatiani received a delegation of writers who visited the Jordan Valley and performed in the concert hall of the Palestinian Red Crescent. The Governor pointed out that many modern writers took interest in the Palestinian issue and expressed hope that their participation in the Forum will promote cultural exchanges and contacts among the Palestinian and other peoples.

The Forum, which lasted several days, ended with a big literary evening, wh ere Oleg Bavykin and Magomed Akhmedov thanked the Palestinian government and people for their hospitality and expressed a desire to help in working on an anthology of contemporary Palestinian literature on behalf of the entire delegation of the Russian Union of Writers.
