Makhachkala, August 19, 2014. More than 80 high-tech operations have been made in Daghestan center of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery since the beginning of 2014, said head of the center Osman Makhachev in an interview with RIA "Dagestan".

"We have been conducting coronary artery stenting in our center since 2013. Back then, there were 32 operations. Since early 2014, our specialists have made 81 coronary stentings," Makhachev said.

Patients are referred to the center by medical men from Daghestan cardiology clinic. Here, the patients are registered and examined, sometimes using coronary angiography, if necessary. All the tests and operations are free of charge for the patients.

Speaking about the need of operations like that, the center’s head pointed out that in 2013, around 630 Daghestanis left the republic for treatment, plus those who cannot afford treatment outside Daghestan – no less in number. So, the demand comes to 500 operations on average.

"It's only about stenting for patients with chronic coronary heart disease. But, there are acute cases, we cannot help the patients – we have no equipment for that. This year, we are fulfilling the state order for such-like high-tech operations. The 2014 state order is 150 operations, half of them already made," Makhachev concluded.
