Media's role in the spiritual and moral education of youth was discussed in Makhachkala January 10, at Daghestan president’s regular meeting with media, the spokesman at Daghestan president and government says.

The meeting brought together the deputy Daghestan Prime Minister Ramazan Dzhafarov, the minister of press and information Aznaur Adzhiev, the chairman of the committee on freedom of conscience and interaction with religious organizations Suleiman Magomedov and other heads of Daghestan media.

Along with state media, representatives of media positioning themselves as Islamic media were invited to the meeting, too.

Opening the event, Daghestani Leader Ramazan Abdulatipov said that it’s a very comprehensive topic, and they should start the conversation with clarifying the word "spirituality". For a non-religious man, truth is perceived through science, but for a religious man, the Almighty is the truth.

The chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Conscience Suleiman Magomedov said that the media play an important role in social, political, economic, and spiritual life of Daghestan society.

Daghestan has a great information potential and resources; a large number of newspapers and magazines are published here. Also, over 130 state, municipal and private radio broadcasters and electronic media function in Daghestan these days.

Many media, as he said, do a great job of promoting morality, respect for social and family values, fighting ignorance, drug addiction, and alcoholism. In this regard, they work closely with governmental, public and religious organizations, educational institutions, and municipal authorities.

Concluding the meeting, Ramazan Abdulatipov again stressed they needed to meet more often, get enlightened in many religious issues, and religious authorities have to understand the politics as well. We need to become large-scale people, which is only high spirituality people’s prerogative.
