Russia’s Caspian Flotilla ships perform shooting exercises in Dagestan

Makhachkala, April 19, 2017. The artillery units of the Caspian flotilla are conducting exercises with live fire at the training grounds in Dagestan, Colonel Vadim Astafyev, the head of press service of the Southern Military District said.

"The artillery units of Marine Corps of the Caspian Flotilla of the Southern Military District have started battery exercises with live firing at Adanak training ground and the tactical field Scorpio in Dagestan. The exercise involves more than 50 military and special equipment units" Astafyev noted.

Astafyev added that in the course of maneuvers, the artillerymen work out battery's actions as part of the sea assault forces in conditions of combat contact with the "enemy." Besides, the crews of the self-propelled artillery guns "Nona" will practice tactics to capture and retain the bridgehead at landing with conducting defensive combat and using electronic warfare.

"The marines carry out tasks in defense to counteract the forces of disembarkation of the sea assault of the conventional enemy. In total, during the exercise, artillery units have to accomplish about 70 fire missions of varying complexity. The crews of combat vehicles conduct firing at single and group targets with direct fire and from closed positions" – the spokesman said.

The exercises of artillery units of Marine Corps of the Caspian Flotilla are conducted within the framework of the camp charges of artillery units of the Southern Military District.
