Makhachkala, August 14, 2014. Yesterday, Daghestani Head Ramazan Abdulatipov visited Chechnya and met with Chechen Head Ramzan Kadyrov and head of the Federal Road Agency (Rosavtodor) Roman Starovoit, the press service of Daghestani Head and government’s administration told RIA "Daghestan". The authorities discussed development of the road sector in both republics, in particular, the state of the "Kavkaz" federal highway.

Later, Roman Starovoit answered reporters’ questions stressing that developing roads of the North Caucasus was one of the agency’s priorities."We understand that the south is becoming more strategically significant in the view of the agreements signed by President Vladimir Putin and leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as in the context of the world’s socio-economic situation. We are reconstructing these roads for the fruits and vegetables, meat and dairy products to be delivered in time to the European part of Russia by the roads going through Chechnya, Daghestan, and our friendly neighbors - Armenia and Azerbaijan," -he said.

The minister added that the "Kavkaz" federal highway will be completely reconstructed. "Our goal is bringing the whole "Kavkaz" highway to the 1st category road in the following 4-5 years. The Grozny-Makhachkala road sector requires particular attention. Our monitoring shows that this road’s publicity is 30,000 – 40,000 cars per day. Chechnya is safe now, people often go to the neighboring Daghestan for the weekend to go to the sea and do shopping. Accordingly, we must adjust the transport infrastructure to the people’s needs," – R. Starovoit concluded.
