Ramazan Abdulatipov congratulates Dagestanis on 2000 anniversary of Derbent

Makhachkala, September 19, 2015. The Head of the Republic of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov has congratulated all the Dagestanis on the 2000-year anniversary of the city of Derbent.

"I congratulate the residents of Derbent, all Dagestanis on the remarkable event – the 2000-anniversary of the city of Derbent, one of the treasures of world civilization. We are grateful to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin who signed a decree that determined that Derbent anniversary would be celebrated across the state. In particular, the President RF said:

"Of course, Derbent is a unique place for the human civilization and it deserves special attention. "The country's leadership provided maximum assistance to Dagestan in throughout preparations for the anniversary of the city. The entire 2015 has become for us, without exaggeration, the year of 2000-year anniversary of one of the oldest cities in Russia.

The preparations for the celebration is the most important priority for the government of the republic. In a relatively short period of time it organized a substantial amount of repairs and restoration work on objects of cultural heritage. Besides, much had been done to arrange the municipal infrastructure, to reconstruct parks and streets. The Ministry of the Russian Federation for Affairs of the Northern Caucasus had executed huge work too. We keep under control the progress of work.

The republic-wide anniversary celebrations is a great opportunity to attract the attention of Russian and world community to Dagestan and its great cultural heritage. We have done everything so that more visitors could see today the ancient city-defender, the fortress at all times inaccessible for enemies and open to friends.

The southernmost city in Russia Derbent is the clearest example of the millennial history of fraternity and friendship among peoples of different nationalities, cultures, religions and ideologies. Three greatest religions: Christianity, Judaism and Islam came on the territory of modern Russia via Derbent.

Derbent is a city-museum, a symbol of our country, the pride of the whole of Russia. The well-preserved  unique architects: the Naryn-Kala citadel, the Great Wall of Caucasus Dagbary ", the historical part of the city are included into the World Heritage List of UNESCO. International recognition emphasizes the important historical role of Derbent that made a huge contribution to world civilization.

I express my deep gratitude to all those who assisted in conducting a grand celebration. I ask the residents of the city to get more actively involved in the formation of a decent habitat in Derbent. I wish you all peace and prosperity and further success in creative work for the benefit of Dagestan, Russia ", - the message runs.
