Makhachkala, June 30, 2015. Dagestan can significantly improve economy development tempos due to the extension of food embargo against several European countries, the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at the meeting with Dagestan Head Ramazan Abdulatipov.

"Concerning the rural areas I would like to say that it is important, in my view, to take advantage of opportunities currently available due to prolongation of restrictions on importation of food products from the European Union and some other countries. Dagestan has excellent opportunities for gardening and horticulture. You may increase the intensity of work in separate agricultural sectors, the viticulture for example. In Soviet epoch, the republic achieved good results but then everything, unfortunately degraded. So, if we pay attention to this, I am sure, Dagestan will get a very powerful impetus to the development" - the head of the Russian government noted.

According to Medvedev, this "requires a consolidation of activities of all federal agencies and, of course, the leaders of Dagestan". "Unfortunately, the situation in the industry and agriculture is quite difficult, and the republic is still having certain problems. However, I would like to mention the recent commissioning of new facilities and the dynamic development of agricultural sector in Dagestan" - Medvedev added.
