Daghestani Head lays flowers at bust of the poet Rasul Gamzatov in Moscow

Moscow, July 4, 2014. Today, Ramazan Abdulatipov Daghestani Leader, being on a working trip to Moscow, has laid flowers at the monument of the great Daghestani poet Rasul Gamzatov.

The monument was opened a year ago at Yauzskaya Boulevard and became a meeting place for all Daghestanis living in Moscow. The construction of the monument was initiated by the International Foundation named after Rasul Gamzatov. The solemn opening was attended by the Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Members of Daghestan delegation laid flowers at the monument and read some of his poems. Daghestani Head Ramazan Abdulatipov thanked all participants and noted that Rasul Gamzatov always liked guests and he would be satisfied with such attention.

The official event also brought together the Daghestani Permanent Representative to the Russian President Alexander Ermoshkin, the Public Chamber member Aygun Khalidov and the chairman of the Union of Azerbaijani organizations in Russia Abbas Abbasov.

It should be noted that Rasul Gamzatov is a folk poet of Daghestan, the laureate of Lenin Prize and State Prizes of the USSR and the RSFSR. In 1951 he was elected as the chairman of the Writers' Union of Daghestan, where he had been working till the end of life in November 2003. The first book of his poems in Avar language was published in 1943. His poetry, prose and nonfiction books are well-known and published all across the world.
