Makhachkala, August 21, 2014. Daghestani Head Ramazan Abdulatipov chaired a meeting of the Security Council and the Antiterrorist Commission of Daghestan operation headquarters who met today to discuss anti-terrorism security and fire safety of Daghestan’s educational institutions, health care and social security facilities.

Participants noted that the agencies’ work in 2014, as compared with the same period of 2013, has helped reduce the number of terrorist acts. 158 active insurgents were killed during counter-terrorism operations and other anti-terrorist activities in the North Caucasus, of them 25 gang leaders; 328 criminals and their accomplices were arrested, and 35 terrorist crimes were prevented. Nevertheless, the terrorism threat is still there in the North Caucasus, Daghestan is no exception. This all suggests that authorities ought to take care of security in educational, healthcare and social care institutions.

At the meeting, the authorities also discussed how many preschool institutions, schools, colleges and universities are protected by private and municipal security providers, how well they are fire-protected, and how well schoolchildren are provided with hot meals.

Also, participants touched upon the issue of Ukranian refugees’ education. 2 schools had been identified for the refugees to attend – the #52 Makhachkala school and the school in Manas village, Karabudakhkent region. School buses will take the pupils to school.

In conclusion, Ramazan Abdulatipov noted that issue under discussion is extremely important, and it should be thoroughly considered.
