Daghestan’s cultural and historical image discussed in Derbent

Derbent, August 29, 2014. 26-27 August, a meeting on "North Caucasus museums-reserves as a major component of Russia’s cultural and historical image" with participation of 1st Deputy Daghestan Prime Minister Anatoly Karibov was taking place in Derbent, the press service of Daghestani Head and government’s administration told RIA "Daghestan".

Anticipating the meeting, participants examined the Derbent cultural heritage sites and saw the ongoing archaeological excavations here.

At the meeting, authorities discussed preservation of cultural heritage in Daghestan, preservation of cultural values of North Caucasus peoples as one of the most critical factors in strengthening the Russian identity, issues of the Sholokhov State Museum, creation of a cultural environment as a problem of state cultural policy fundamentals, the role and place of Derbent museum-reserve in Daghestan’s cultural and historical significance and attractiveness, etc.

Also, they paid attention to strengthening the positive image of the South of Russia in the Russian and global cultural space, preserving the historic appearance of Derbent, restoring the cultural heritage sites while preparing for Derbent’s 2,000th anniversary, carrying out security-and-rescue archaeological excavations in the city, developing tourist attractiveness of the republic, and a number of other issues critical not only for Derbent, but for the whole Daghestan.
