Dagestan Head Ramazan Abdulatipov meets with scientific community of France and Russia

Makhachkala, April 6, 2015.  Dagestan Head Ramazan Abdulatipov met with representatives of the scientific community of France and Russia: Director of the Russian-French Center for Humanities and Social Sciences at the Embassy of France in Moscow Jean Radvanyi, President of the International Geographical Union, Vice President of the Russian Geographical Society Vladimir Kolosov, expert in urban studies and problems of ethnic minorities Olga Vendina, and Chairman of the Dagestan branch of the Russian Geographical Society Eldar Eldarov.

Participants discussed socio-economic and regional development and tourist attraction of Dagestan, and other issues. E.g., the guests were interested in the way the priority development project named New Industrialization was implemented in Dagestan. R. Abdulatipov gave details about the present condition of Dagestan industry, and told what steps are being taken to improve the situation. He noted that despite the small volume of industrial production, Dagestan has leading positions in the country in terms of the rate of growth in this area.

The sides also raised issues of mutual integration of the Caucasian regions, preparations for celebrating the 2,000th anniversary of Derbent, development of inter-ethnic relations in the Caspian region, and organization of social and cultural projects in each the region.

Jean Radvanyi is a well-known expert in political geography. He is also a grandson of the famous German writer Anna Seghers and a son of French nuclear physicist Pierre. He is a well-known west European expert in Caucasus, the author of "The Return of The Other Russia" and the cartographic collection "Geopolitical Atlas of the Caucasus".
