Culture and education is what can counter terrorism and extremism – Ramazan Abdulatipov

Makhachkala, July 24, 2014. On July 23, Daghestani Head Ramazan Abdulatipov chaired a regular meeting of Daghestan anti-terrorist commission held to discuss the progress and results of implementing the comprehensive plan of countering the ideology of terrorism in Russia for 2013-2018 in municipalities, the press service of Daghestani Head and government’s administration informed RIA "Daghestan".

Ramazan Abdulatipov noted that fighting terrorism remains a critical issue for Daghestan. He pointed out the great work Daghestan Spiritual Board does and how important it is to establish an institution of antiterrorist commissions in municipalities to coordinate the system of interaction between the republican and the federal institutions.

Minister of press and information Aznaur Adjiev reported that the ministry had made up a list of Internet resources that show signs of extremism propaganda to be addressed by law enforcement. Also, they are monitoring print and electronic media, Daghestan segments of social networks and the blogosphere for destructive publications relating to Daghestan public authorities.

The chairman of the committee on freedom of conscience and interaction with religious organizations Suleiman Magomedov recalled that in Daghestan, they adopted the state program "Cooperation with religious organizations in Daghestan and their state support for 2014-2016" to provide state support to religious organizations and educational institutions.

Minister of culture Zarema Butaeva spoke about the main areas in preventing anti-social phenomena among young students: holding various events in their free time, preventing crime among students, developing volunteering and charitable movements among them, holding pedagogical councils and assemblies for supervising teachers, and propaganda of healthy lifestyle, sports and physical culture.

Summarizing the discussion, Daghestani Head gave instructions to heads of municipalities to find more effective methods of teaching culture to young people. "Culture and education is what can counter terrorism and extremism," Ramazan Abdulatipov said.
