Alexander Khloponin chairs a teleconference on preventing and eliminating forest fires

Makhachkala, July 17, 2014. On July 16, Deputy Russian Prime Minister Alexander Khloponin held a teleconference on “Preventing and eliminating forest fires in Russia”.
Here, Daghestan was represented by Deputy Prime Minister Sharip Sharipov, chairman of Daghestan Forestry Committee Alibeg Gadjiyev and deputy head of the General Board of the Russian Emergencies Ministry in Daghestan Yussuf Supyanov, the press service of Daghestani Head and government’s administration informed .

Opening the videoconference, Khloponin stressed that summer is the fire hazard season of the year. As compared to the same period of 2013, the number of fires in Russia has almost doubled reaching 12,600 fires.

To help involved ministries and departments in providing forest protection and fire control, Daghestani government adopted the decree "On urgent measures to protect forests from fires in 2014" in May 2014.

As of July 10, 2014, they laid 53 km of forest roads to protect forests from fires, which is 90% of the 2014 plan, repaired 80 km of roads (96%), set 100 km of fire lines (100%), took care of 119 km of fire lines (79%), and burnt 690 ha (76.7%). They follow the plan good with no delays.

There are 215 routes of ground patrols 2005 km long and 50 fully equipped observation points on commanding heights and high facilities to monitor fire hazard in forests. 25 mobile fire fighting teams of 223 people and 164 voluntary fire fighting brigades of 1,436 people have been established, too.
