Photo exhibition "My ancient Derbent" takes place in Naryn-Kala

Makhachkala, September 17, 2015. Yesterday, the exhibition of Derbent photographer-artist Arif Guseynov entitled "My ancient Derbent" was opened in Derbent. The event was initiated by Dagestan ministry of press and information, Dagestan ministry of culture, the republican newspaper "Dagestanskaya pravda" and the regional newspaper "Derbentskie izvestia."

More than 40 years ago, Arif Guseynov graduated from Vladikavkaz civil engineering college but the photo art has always attracted him. Besides, the phot allowed him to study architecture of Derbent in more detail.

The main theme of the exhibition is the artist’s born town. In the photos, Guseynov reflected Derbent life in all its manifestations. There are more than hundreds of color and black-and-white photos of the artist, clearly illustrating the rich history of the oldest cities in Russia. The appearance of ancient and modern Derbent, its panoramas and fragments of architectural monuments, inhabitants, sport and cultural events. All that the photographer considered important and precious for himself.

"Each photo has its own history. One day, on waking up at four o’clock in the morning, I saw the snow outside the window and without giving it much thought, I went out for new pictures. Early morning, empty city and I am with a camera! The result of this "photoshoot" you can see at the exhibition,"- the photographer commented.

Guseynov had successfully been attracted by photography for a long time and. In the early 2000s, his exhibition took place in Paris, and in the summer of 2015, the traveling exhibition "Derbent is the most ancient city of Russia" visited several cities in Russia such as Moscow, St. Petersburg, Pskov and others.

As it was reported,the opening ceremony brought together the representatives of ministries and departments, the administration of the city of Derbent and Derbent region, the deputies and other officials.
