Makhachkala, July 17, 2014. On July 16, they organized a tour of Daghestan State Museum of History and Architecture, which is currently under reconstruction, for Daghestan public and media.

The total area of the museum’s head office (the oldest building in Makhachkala, the former residence of Prince Bariatinskiy) is 2.700 square meters. They plan to set up 20 exhibition rooms and a working corridor on 2 floors. There will be sections ranging from Daghestan paleontology and archaeology till modern times.

Along with the static display, they plan to establish a large exhibition complex to expose temporary thematic exhibitions, including those dedicated to various events and anniversaries, and traveling exhibitions of mutual exchange with domestic and foreign museums. As for the museum’s patio, it is going to be used to house large-scale exhibits that cannot be represented in the museum. On the ground floor, there will be a lecture hall to resume the practice of holding public lectures for students, schoolchildren and other visitors.

All the 320 museum employees will participate in compiling the future museum exposure in the new building. They will develop a thematic structure plan as required for creating a museum exposition. Meanwhile, they will design a new exposure project. The reconstruction of the new museum building is planned to be completed by 2015, and it is likely that the museum will open in April, 2015, on the 90th anniversary of the museum.

Currently, the museum’s stock fund includes 170,000 items, of which 78,000 are concentrated in the store-room of the head quarters; the rest is exhibited and stored in its 37 branches in Daghestan cities and regions.
