Makhachkala History Museum hosts exhibition devoted to Yevgeny Gvozdev’s first solo circumnavigation

Makhachkala, November 10, 2016. Today, Makhachkala History Museum have hosted an exhibition "Yevgeny Gvozdev. Solo Sailor”, devoted to the 20th anniversary of the Yevgeny Gvozdev’s first solo circumnavigation. The exhibition demonstrates photos, videos, documents and exhibits relating to the Yevgeny Gvozdev’s travel.

The exhibition is initiated by Makhachkala administration, the department of cultural affairs, Dagestan branch of the Russian Geographical Society, Dagestan Sailing Federation.

Yevgeny Gvozdev was a sailor, who committed a circumnavigation of the flag of Russia, from the Russian territory and in a yacht built in Russia. The only sailor in the world, who made an around the world trip on a walking centerboard boat. He was the only person passed the Strait of Magellan on a makeshift boat "Said" making a length of 3.7 meters.

Gvozdev died at the beginning of the third circumnavigation in November 2008 in the Gulf of Naples and was buried at the military cemetery in Makhachkala.
