Festival of folk songs to be held in Daghestan

Makhachkala, August 15, 2014. A Festival of Traditional Folk Song will take place in the village of Usukhchay, in Dokuzparinsky district of Daghestan on August 23.  The festival is devoted to Daghestani singer Kukvaz Radzhab - one of the most famous lezghin singers of XX century, who preserved and developed the best traditions of folk music and song culture. Lezghin Federal National Cultural Autonomy and the administration of the municipality formation «Dokuzparinsky district» initiate the event.

Folk singers, both solo and ensembles (instrumental, vocal, choirs) from all parts of southern Daghestan and northern Azerbaijan will be invited to participate in the festival. The festival organizers have the following objectives: to find talented performers among creative groups and soloists; to preserve, to  develop and to promote a culture of Lezghin peoples; to provide participants opportunities collaborating with leading experts and honored art workers of Daghestan and other regions of the Russian Federation, as well as Azerbaijan; to increase performance skills of participants and to train teachers and managers of creative groups.

The performance in traditional national costumes is welcomed. The professional jury will select the winners to award them with cash prizes and valuable gifts.
The applications for participation in the festival are accepted until August 15, 2014.
