"Derbent. Vital link over times” photo exhibition to take place in Rome

Makhachkala, February 15, 2016. The photo exhibition "Derbent. Vital link over times", telling about the history and the present days of one of the most ancient cities of Russia, has kicked off since February 9 in the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Rome, a spokesperson reports.

The exhibition features pictures, which depict the life, the culture and the identity of different ethnic groups. The photos were taken in 2014 and 2015 during an expedition to Derbent with the participation of known Russian photographers.

Photos are divided into many thematic sections: the Naryn-Kala fortress, the children, the city and the citizens, on the streets of Derbent, person, school, wedding, religion (mosque, church, synagogue), culture, market, circle of life. The exhibition includes photographs depicting the sunrise in the ancient city of Derbent and the night views.

The exhibition is organized by the public organizations "Face to Face" and the Russian Jewish National Fund. The purpose of the exhibition is not only to tell about the life of one of the oldest Russian cities, but also cultivate the sense of mutual respect for national cultures and ethnic identities among the people.

The opening day took place in Moscow, then in Novgorod, Yaroslavl and Kronstadt - the twin city of Derbent. The Rome will become the first city in the international tour. "We plan to show it in several foreign countries", - the exhibition's curator Raphael Feinberg says.
In Rome, the exhibition will run till February 18.
