Center of Ethnic Culture in Makhachkala sums up two years’ work

Makhachkala, January 22, 2015. The Center of Ethnic Culture in Makhachkala met at a round table to discuss problems and trends in developing ethnic culture in Dagestan, and the results of their two years’ work, a source in the centre told RIA Dagestan.

The event brought together deputies of the Russian State Duma – chairman of the Committee on Nationalities Gadjimet Safaraliev and member of the Committee on Property and chairman of the centre’s board of trustees Magomedkadi Gassanov, art historians, and other officials.

Opening the meeting, Safaraliev noted that the centre has been focusing on ethnic culture. For two years, the Centre of Ethnic Culture has become a multicultural site of Makhachkala. Magomedkadi Gassanov stressed that the ethnic and cultural space the center has created positively affects educating young people and creating a positive image of Dagestan.

Participants noted the relevance of discussing the problem of interaction with creative intelligentsia, museums, associations, schools, universities, and media. They decided to make the most of the ethnic culture centre as a platform for implementing the principles of multicultural education.

In 2014, the Center of Ethnic Culture arranged various exhibitions, conferences, and round tables. Every week, in partnership with RGVK "Dagestan" they aired the "Kunatskaya" program, a series of programs called "Mir TV" about Dagestani arts and crafts, regular programs on "Channel 5" about ethno-cultural traditions of Dagestan, programs on "Russia 1" channel, etc. In conjunction with Dagestan State Technical University they have also held 2 festivals of ethnic culture. The center’s activities enhance firming the social relationships and developing ethnic groups of the republic.
