Makhachkala, April 7, 2016. The republican Commission for certification, registration and development of seed-growing farms of Dagestan has decided to grant the status of the republican state seed farm to the "Sirius" LLC located in Kizlyar district. The company possesses 5 thousand hectares of land that is supposed to be sown by rice. The another farm "Zul" located in Kurakhsky District will produce potato seed grown by Dagestan Institute of Agriculture"

Dagestan agricultural producers are provided with seeds of grain crops by 60%. The elite seeds are entirely imported from the neighboring regions. Currently, there is only one seed producing farm on the basis of the LLC "Niva" in Kizlyar district, which is one of the leading rice-growing farms in Dagestan.

The work on the creation of both companies is already underway – a spokesperson of the republic’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food says. According to the ministry, the development of seed production sector will ensure growth in productivity and gross yield, even if the total area of cultivated fields will be preserved.
