RusHydro releases 20 thousand trout fry in Chirkey Reservoir

Makhachkala, January 11, 2017. Twenty thousand species of rainbow trout fry have been released into the Chirkey Reservoir by the experts of Dagestan branch of the "RusHydro" JSC and the scientific-production company "Aqua resources" within the framework of the charitable environmental program.

The reservoirs seeding is the traditional activity of the branch. For example, in 2006 more than one million carp fry species were released in Gunib Reservoir. In 2007 and 2008, more than 150 thousand species of grass carp were released into Chirjurtsky reservoir.

The Chirkey reservoir had been seeded three times. In total 500 thousand species of trout fry were released in 2008, 20 thousand - in 2012 and 95 000 - in 2014.
Apart from the fry, invertebrate organisms (mysid and gammarids) were released in the reservoirs.

The Chirkey reservoir meet all the requirements necessary for the settlement and cultivation of any subspecies of trout. The local kinds of barbel, chub, perch and Caucasian bleak inhabit in the largest reservoir of Dagestan. Brook trout, rudd, crucian carp and common carp can be met in rare instances.

The rainbow trout belongs to the family of noble salmon. The natural place of its habitation are the reservoirs of the Pacific coast of North America. Currently, due to human activities the rainbow trout is widely spread all over the world, including the waters of the Northern Caucasus.
