Makhachkala, September 25, 2014. At the "Open Dagestan-2014" international tourism forum taking place September 24-25 in the Gamzatov National Library in Makhachkala, ministers, senior officials of national tourism administrations, and officials from the leading Daghestan universities discussed the "strategy of developing tourism and recreation: regional aspects".

Participants were disputing on prospects of developing tourism in Daghestan and the North Caucasus Federal District in whole, working out the tourism industry’s strategy in the NCFD, and exchanging experience between the regions.
In Daghestan, they have worked out a large-scale project of establishing a tourist cluster comprising some ski resorts, a beach cluster on the Caspian shore, and a medical cluster on some 250 hectares. The project will employ around 75,000. Daghestan already has the 2 resorts of the tourist cluster – the Caspian coastal cluster and the "Matlas" tourism and recreation complex.

Deputy CEO of ‘North Caucasus Resorts’ JSC said Daghestan enjoys a great potential in tourism development, and the project under discussion was a priority project strategically critical for the nation. The project aims at socio-economic development of the region and improving the quality of life and well-being by creating a qualified infrastructure enabling to compete with the world's leading resorts.
