Makhachkala, January 12, 2014. In 2014, new type vineyards of a total area of 1.6 hectares are planned to be laid in Daghestan. By 2020, the area will surpass 4 hectares, the spokesman at Daghestani ministry of agriculture and food supply reports.

Laying the new vineyards is planned as part of the 2019 agricultural development program; the draft program has already been developed in Daghestan. In this document, the Ministry of Agriculture lays a particular emphasis on developing vinery, one of the main agricultural sectors.

Under the program, they plan to lay new plantations in 19 Daghestan districts including Kayakent, Derbent, Suleiman Staliskiy and some other southern regions with the most suitable climate for vines.

In addition a "new model" of viticulture’s cluster development has been developed and implemented in Dagestan. The model provides stimulation of laying vineyards by investors - major producers of alcoholic beverages such as "Derbent Cognac Plant" JSC, "Derbent Sparkling Wines Factory" JSC, "Kizlyar Cognac Plant" SUE, "Izberbash Wine & Cognac Plant" JSC, and "Makhachkala Winery" JSC.

To lay the vineyards, these enterprises have signed agreements to get  2,320 hectare land. In 2013, deep plowing was set on the area of 3 hectares, 1,650 hectares were planted with vines.
