Makhachkala, January 30, 2017. These days, Dagestan plant cultivators are working on laying out intensive orchards and vineyards in Magarmkentsky district of the republic, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food reports. The planting works are executed within the framework of the target development project "Effective agriculture".

According to the source, the local residents engaged in field works have finished the installation of trellis poles for vineyards on the territory of 50 hectares in the vicinities to the village of Yarag-Kazmalyar. Besides, the agricultural enterprises signed contracts for the supply of planting material and seedlings. The field works are in progress.

The ministerial press-service also informs that two agricultural cooperatives "Vozrozhdeniye" and "Granit" are laying out intensive orchards. 50 hectares of semi-dwarf intensive orchards under drip irrigation have been laid out in the village of Yarag-Kazmalyar. Currently, the material (the apple seedlings of new immune varieties purchased in Krasnodar) is being prepared for planting.  Additionally, a basin for 12 thousand cubic meters of water had been dug to install the drip irrigation system.

The total area of intensive gardens in the area may amount to 150 hectares in the nearest future.

Recall, the intensive garden differs from the traditional tree-planting by the high density: at least 800 trees per hectare in intensive gardens against 300 in the traditional ones. However, many high-performance commercial orchards today have 2,500-2,800 trees per hectare, and even higher density.

According to the experts, heavy gardens laying is a time-consuming work, which envisages using a variety of technologies, including drip irrigation. But at the same time, this is a promising direction in the republic, which allows getting maximum yield with minimal labor costs.
