Approx. 500 thousand tourists visit Dagestan in 2016

Makhachkala, January 9, 2017. More than 470 thousand tourists visited Dagestan in 2016, the ministry of tourism and folk crafts of the Republic of Dagestan reports.60% of tourists are the residents of nearby regions. 40% are the residents of foreign countries and other Russian regions. The ministry has traditionally made its own rating of popular tourist sites in the republic.

Derbent takes the first place in the ministry’s ranking list. Sulak canyon, Sarikumsk dune, Samur forest, Kubachi village, the Caspian Sea coast, ski resort "Chindirchero", the mount Shalbuzdag, the villages of Gunib and the city of Makhachkala have also been included into the top ten visited places of interest.
