1,500 tons of commercial fish bred in Dagestan in 2014

Makhachkala, March 10, 2015. In 2014, more than 1,552 tons of commercial fish was bred in Dagestani fish farms, which is 400 tons more than the previous year, a source in the republican ministry of agriculture and food supply reported RIA Dagestan.

By 2015, the total area under ponds has exceeded 12,000 hectares, of which 2,000 are conditioned ponds. Currently, there are more than 70 fish farms operating in Dagestan that are engaged in commercial fish breeding, and 61 enterprises are engaged in commercial fishing.

As part of implementing the Effective Agriculture priority project, they set up and expand 11 fish farms in 6 municipalities of the republic. In Tarumovka region, they expanded the pond area by 2,000 hectares. Here, they’ve completed the bulk of fish breeding and reclamation work, now planning to stock the ponds with fish in spring.

In Kumtorkali region, Bryansk fish factory LLC built a fish farm to cultivate marketable sturgeon on 28 hectares. Apart from that, Shirokolsky fish factory LLC expanded their ponds with occupying 2,000 hectares. 2 more ponds were built on 1 hectare in Tlyaratinskiy district.
