Makhachkala, October 13, 2012. On Saturday, October 13, the Head of the Republic of Dagestan Magomedsalam Magomedov paid a working visit to the flood-hit town of Derbent to get familiarized with the progress of disaster relief.

The Head of the republic met with the disaster-hit people, talked to them and personally got familiarized with the flood relief measures undertaken by municipal authorities.

Then, in the building Derbent district administration, Dagestani Head chaired an extended meeting on the flood relief issues.  

Opening the event, the Head of Dagestan reminded that the mudflow inflicted significant damage to the communal systems of the town. "There is still a lot of work. Today we will listen to reports on the progress of work in the aftermath of disaster, consider the questions to involve additional forces, resources, people, etc. from the republican reserve or the other municipalities. This is the first. Second, what is necessary to pay attention is to carry out selective round of the areas affected and to assess the damage. We need to reach every person affected".

The Head of Russia's EMERCOM across Dagestan Nariman Kazimagamedov reported that three groups of experts are sent to each of the affected houses: "The first group is assessing the damage, the second renders necessary first aid (water, cleaning silt and debris), the third group consists of rescue workers, who are also involved in the cleanup work. Besides, a group of psychologists works with the families of victims. A police officer is attached to each group. At the very moment, 20 percent of houses are surveyed only. The restoration work is scheduled to be completed until October 16. The applications from citizens are still being accepted".

Dagestani Head instructed the heads of local governments at all levels to take comprehensive measures for appropriate overcoming the effects of the disaster. Magomedsalam Magomedov said that the construction of the new pumping station should be started immediately to provide dwellers with potable water.

"This object we will included into the appropriate program and will be refunded" - the Head of the republic pointed out.
