Makhachkala, January 23, 2012. The film crew of the TV channel “Russia today” consisting of 5 persons has been working in the republic since January 12 to January 22. The Russian journalists arrived in Dagestan by invitation of the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Dagestan at the Russian President Gadji Makhachev. The film crew was led by the author of documentaries, sports news correspondent of the Arabic language Al-Jawad Abdel Roshd and the leading sports news correspondent in English Roman Kosarev.

The Head of the Republic of Dagestan Magomedsalam Magomedov told the film crew on the socio-economic and political situation in the Republic of Dagestan. He highlighted the importance of sport in educating the younger generation and the measures to support the athletes, sports infrastructure facilities in the republic.

The purpose of the working trip to Dagestan was to shoot a television film on the Olympic champions of the region. The interest of Russian journalist was caused by the fact that Dagestanis won 40 Olympic medals, including 21 gold, 114 medals at the world championships, 50 of them - gold, 126 at the European championships, 70 of them - gold.

Finally a 52-minute film has been created. Abd al-Dzhalad Roshd in an interview with Dagestan TV channel confessed that his 26-minute film, shot two years ago about the history, monuments of culture and crafts of Dagestan occurred to be in demand in Arab world. It has been broadcasted 40 times on “Russia Al Yaum". Posted on the site the movie was seen by more than one million users.

Russia today intends to shoot several more films on Dagestan- its nature, ethnography and the local cuisine.
