On January 20, a round table discussion on "The North Caucasus in the context of federalism" was held in Moscow with the framework of the forum "Russia and the World: 2012-2020". The roots of a radical religious ideology were discussed as a part of its work. The meeting was chaired by the Head of the scientific direction "Political Economy and Regional Development" of Economic Policy Institute Irina Starodubrovskaya. A delegation of the Republic of Dagestan also took part in the forum.

I. Starodubrovskaya and D. Sokolov spoke with the basic reports. During the work of the roundtable, the participants suggested the following solutions to existing problems in the North Caucasus: land reform, the program of the personnel reserve, the abrogation of the laws about Wahhabism, the intensification of the negotiating process with the participation of federal authorities, the involvement of local communities in anti-terrorism activities, change of the image of the region, work with public fears and stereotypes.

Its members discuss the socio-economic development of Russia and the world till 2020, the most important issues of economic and social policies, the possible ways to improve the business climate, considering the possibility of innovative development of Russia.
