Court to decide the fate of crashed plane crew of "Dagestan Airlines"

Makhachkala, September 30, 2011. On September 29 in Makhachkala, the commission of the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) has officially announced opinion on the fact of accident with the aircraft Tu-154 of the JSC "Dagestan Airlines" in December 2010 at the airport "Domodedovo"(Moscow). The event was attended by the deputy prime minister RD Mukhtar Medjidov, the IAC representative Boris Garunov, the director general of the OJSC "Dagestan Airlines" Zhabir Abakarov and the acting head of the Airlines flights department Yuri Struhansky.

Recently, the Commission has concluded that the erroneous actions of the crew during the flight and landing with one engine running caused the accident. In IAC officials’ opinion this led to "the aircraft’s rolling off beyond the runway in non-landing position and collision with the ground”.

Let us remind the accident resulted in significant damage to the aircraft, two passengers died, another 60 were seriously injured.

The final report of the IAC runs that the "crew did not use all the possibilities to restore control over the on-board equipment after the repair of the generator number 2 and connection of the auxiliary gas turbine engine to the onboard network."

The Airlines Director General Zhabir Abakarov expressed company’s disagreement with IAC’s resolution noted that the fate of the crew members will be decided by the investigative bodies and court.
