Makhachkala, November 28, 2008. Today Dagestan celebrates the United Information Day. The main issue of the day has been outline in the theme “The President of Russia on priorities of development of the Russian society”.

Within the framework of the UID the minister for national policy, information and external relations RD Garun Kurbanov has visited the town of Izberbash. Declaring his introductory speech, he has underlined main theses of internal and foreign policy of Russia and pointed out mechanisms of realization of its positions in Dagestan. In particular, speaking about principles and approaches of development of the national policy, stated in the main document of the expiring year, which are of exclusive importance for multinational Dagestan, the minister reminded that more than 120 nationalities and ethnic groups, national minorities live in the republic.

Then the minister told about measures, taken by the republic authorities on developing of culture and cultural heritage preservation, developing of national art crafts. Garun Kurbanov considered questions, concerning danger from ideologists of international terrorism and religious-political extremism.

“I think that the republican mass-media, first of all, should propagandize ideas of preservation of international and interethnic world and dialogue, though I understand it’s difficult enough as there are more than 200 printing and about 100 electronic mass-media (not all of them are state) in the republic. Among them there are government and private ones. Coverage of ideas of patriotic education of youth, struggle against terrorism and extremism will be changed in the republican mass media. The role of state mass-media in covering the subject will be increased” – Kurbanov said.
