Law enforcement agencies assessments indicate that there are up to 100 terrorists and 1,370 Wahhabis active in Dagestan.
"According to the Interior Ministry, there are seven sabotage and terrorist groups, whose size vary from 7 to 15 people each, active in Dagestan. Moreover, there are 1,370 supporters of the Wahhabism religious movement registered in police departments," Dagestani Interior Minister Adilgerey Magomedtagirov told the national research conference on topical aspects of countering ethnic and political extremism in Makhachkala.
The minister also called to reinstate death penalty for extremists. "Two sentences can be applied to extremists - either execution by firing squad or life imprisonment. Only then will they not do harm to society," Magomedtagirov said.
