Makhachkala, November 20, 2008. Dagestan Scientific Centre RAS has opened a scientifically-practical conference under the name “Religions and religious associations as the factor of the civil world and interethnic concord in the Northern Caucasus”.

Notable public figures of the republic, known scientists, representatives of public and local authorities have taken part in the conference. The director of the regional centre of ethnopolitical researches of DSC RAS Abdul-Gamid Aliev has given a talk on counteraction to religious-political extremism and terrorism.

According to A. Aliev, the State-sponsored terrorism was considered as the most large-scale one and acted as repressive state machinery against political opposition and citizens as well as against the foreign states.

Professor Abdul-Gamid Aliev has expressed confidence in the fact of uniting of all the people to struggle against terrorism, for it couldn’t be limited only by power, sometimes inefficient, methods.
The first vice- chairman of DSC RAS A.Aliev also noted there has recently appeared the necessity of serious analysis of a circle of questions and problems concerning national interests and national policy in the south of Russia. Besides, solution of many national and international problems of the south of Russia has been impeded for the reason there was no scientifically based state national policy supported with the state documents on harmonization of interethnic relations.
